You’ve probably heard that animals must constantly adapt to their environment to survive. For example, with global warming, the beaver is able to exploit new territories, located in northern Quebec, that were previously inaccessible to it. The beaver has therefore been able to take advantage of the situation to expand its habitat. Like the beaver, companies must adapt to their new environment in order to survive. This adaptation requires, among other things, a digital transformation.
What is the digital transformation of a company?
Digital transformation is the application of digital capabilities to processes, products and assets to improve efficiency, increase customer value, manage risk and uncover new monetization opportunities. But it is equally important to understand what digital transformation is NOT. Digital transformation is NOT agile application development, the cloud, big data, machine learning or deep learning, the Internet of Things, virtual desktops, mobile devices. Bill Schmarzo
In other words, it is not enough to implement various digital tools in the enterprise to say that the enterprise is in digital transformation. Digital transformation begins at the very core of the enterprise, that is, at the level of its business model. Digital tools will be used to link all sectors of the company (operations, marketing, accounting, customer service) in order to collect a set of data. The analysis of this data will allow the company to increase efficiency and optimize its services for the customer. Business decisions will now be made based on all this data.
There is no digital transformation without also reviewing the digital literacy level of its employees. According to UNESCO, digital literacy involves the confident and critical use of a full range of digital technologies for information, communication and basic problem solving in all aspects of life. It builds on basic ICT (Information and Communication Technology) skills: the use of computers to retrieve, evaluate, store, produce, present and exchange information, and to communicate and participate in collaborative networks via the Internet.
It is therefore important to surround yourself with people who have skills in ICT and who are also concerned with keeping up with the evolution of technology. Capitalizing on its workforce, especially in times of employee shortage, by offering them training in new technologies is an excellent investment.
To carry out a digital transformation, you must first and foremost be able to evaluate your company’s analytical maturity.
