Description of the position

The Chief Estimator is responsible for the validation of estimates. The Chief Estimator makes recommendations to the Director of Operations on the final value of the estimates in order to submit adequate and competitive proposals. He/she supervises the work of 2 estimators, negotiates with subcontractors and liaises with general contractors.

The Chief Estimator works closely with members of his estimating team, project managers, superintendents and accounting. He/she is at the heart of the relationship with the clients before contracts are obtained.

Job Description

Supervision

  • Ensure the validity of the estimates of his team;
  • Make recommendations to the Director of Operations for bid closing;
  • Allocate the proposals to be analyzed to the different estimators of the team;
  • Standardize estimating procedures;
  • Ensure a presence at industry networking events;
  • Optimize available tools to be on the lookout for new projects to be estimated;
  • Prepare cost estimates for materials, labor and equipment required to complete a project, according to plans and specifications;
  • Contract reading;
  • Grant subcontracts and approve purchases;
  • Update product costs/labor performance and product prices annually in our database.

Human Resources

  • Create a sense of belonging to Brisson with the members of his team;
  • Ensure that estimators have all the necessary tools and receive the relevant training for the continuous improvement of estimators.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or college diploma in civil engineering or equivalent;
  • 10 years of estimating experience, 5 of which are in the painting field and 3 in a supervisory role.

Project Manager Montreal or Gatineau

Description of the position

The Project Manager is responsible for the implementation of the project, its efficient progress and profitability. In addition, the Project Manager must maintain excellent relationships with his/her client and business partners.

The PM must demonstrate the profitability of his/her project on a monthly basis to the General Manager using pre-established performance indicators. On a day-to-day basis, the President, who is responsible for the work sites, will supervise the work of the project managers.

Each project manager is supported by a superintendent, whose role is to ensure excellent production quality on the sites, including painting and supervision of painters.

Job Description

Management of site operations

  • Take ownership of relevant information for each project under his direction in order to fully understand the mandate (plans, specifications, estimates);
  • Attend the client’s start-up meeting with the foreman;
  • Ensure that the project estimator has created a production rate before the kick-off date;
  • Schedule the kick-off meeting and ask the estimating coordinator to prepare the relevant project documentation on TEAMS and/or PLANGRID;
  • Provide all documentation required by the clients (JHA, LEED, WELL…);
  • Schedule and organize the audit and final audit meeting;
  • Manage mobilization and demobilization;
  • Consult all the directives on its projects. Decide on the process to follow.
    • Consult the foreman and provide an extra to the client;
    • If the directive requires a new measurement, ask the project estimator;
    • Make sure that each accepted directive is transmitted to the foreman.
  • Approval of technical and material safety data sheets;
  • Site visit: when required.

Management of financial resources

  • Analyze and justify project budgets;
  • Place equipment rental orders with the equipment manager and ensure monthly follow-up using the rental table;
  • Manage, negotiate and approve special order invoices;
  • Supervise W/O and ensure receipt of purchase orders for extras;
  • Negotiate contracts with subcontractors and approve invoices;
  • Provide billing information to the liaison officer on a monthly basis.

Human Resources Management

  • Supervise and assist foremen in their work;
  • Ensure that the workforce has the necessary requirements. If not, ensure that they get the necessary training or rating;
  • Schedule and organize 4 annual meetings with foremen;
  • Annual performance evaluation of foremen (in November);
  • Know the collective agreements in order to ensure the smooth running of the work sites;
  • Ask the project management coordinator to follow up on new hires, including the procedure for welcoming painters.

Education

BAC in civil engineering or DEC in civil engineering or DEC in architectural technology with more than 2 years experience
